Hunt Camps

The hunt is on! Turn in your tames for cash & prizes. Entry cut-off: ____ Shoulder tames wanted! Enter yours for Cash & prizes. Entry cut-off: ____

I. Tame prize animals, supply with two stacks of kibble. Leave tame in open stall & pay to close door.

II. One stall per player, one tame per stall. Rewards based on tame features: level, species, rarity, beauty, etc.

III. Payment delivered end of the season, tames available for retrieval for I week after season's end. Details at wiki.differentzebras.net

Storyboards

I. I Am Rootbone, crier for the Different Zebras. I've put these bulletin boards everywhere I expect fresh eyes will see them. Welcome to our Chaotic Earth.

II. We began with retrofitting a redwood fortress into a hub dubbed "Asylum," 64/33. Coin is lighter than other goods and preferred among the traders.

III. Between Coin, our port & factory, Asylum grew: a market, bank, lodging, guard post, Greenhouses, Community Hall, Dino Center and even a Barber shop.

IV. Other matters settled, our brightest focused her Teknology. Feedtrons are Gadget's first success found all over. Her next is just as useful, but damning.

V. Protection Totems hijack the ARK's code to create a damage absorbing barrier, big enough for a town. But soon as the last Totem went down, it "changed."

VI. It started with a shimmer. Plants & animals that weren't pulverized became unrecognizable. A witness dubbed it "Area-Y." The name stuck, as is the Totem.

VII. Gadget's initial report said error handling for the ARK's regen code is off, err'd via Totem. What wasn't know was if the damage was local to Area-Y.

VIII. The first sightings outside Area-Y were dismissed. Mutants captured outside Area-Y were not. The corruption is global and not limited to just mutations.

IX. Alphas have always been around, now they're found with greater species diversity. Rabid, diseased dinos lock down entire regions, & then there's "us."

X. The same regen code that brings in the dinos also hauls in us survivors. The result is Bushfolk, a Survivor regenerated as a feral, cannibalistic thug.

XI. Bushfolk live a simple & insane lifestyle. They do cloth, shelter & hunt together but most don't seem very capable beyond that. Some have developed further.

XII. While all cannibals, some Bushfolk only eat the crueler of their own kind. These have developed a tribal culture with rank & file to cull the ferals.

XIII. Those of us not brought in as hungry lunatics are dwindling. Those of us safe from harm dwindle further. Different Zebras calls to arms and to community.

XIV. We set bounty on alphas & apex predators & are buying supplies; trade trophies & surplus resources for Coin at Asylum market. Look to "Stock" to cash in.

XV. Feral Bushies also made the shitlist. We're working with Tribe arbiters to return stolen head dresses to the Tribal Bushfolk; seek headhunter "Cobrett."

Storyboards

I. It's dry, so very dry. I remember warm, dry days in Vermont where constant exposure could kill, but here the wind whisps you to jerky.

II. The first jump was tough on us all, but brought hope for a shorter distance home. Seeing the first Bushfolk nearly eliminated that hope.

III. The folk of this place who were not turned cannibal were no more happy to see us than the Bushfolk. Cautious & hardened, they did not trust us.

IV. Construction of our first settlements kept troubled minds busy. Those places' raising by locals, more so. Talks of retaliation started.

V. Decided to appeal more to their liking, we constructed our Obelisk to appeal to the local folk's culture. Our sign of appreciation was taken well.

VI. Misunderstandings have been resolved: we tread nowhere the desert folk do not wish us, & the Obelisk remains untouched as a place of Sanctuary: Oasis 64/43.

VII. The trade brought more understanding of this place. Mythical creatures live here, long before our tampering with the ARK's regen code.

VIII. Things that spit fire and thunder aside, the rest of the animals here are different. More carnivores, less prey & mutations for everyone.

XI. I had wished deeply that escaping The Island would have left the misgivings of Area-Y behind. I was wrong. Our people are still under threat.

X. Those who wished violence on the locals were none too happy about the tribal Bushfolk looking to re-establish old ties. Tensions grew again.

XI. Our usual Bushfolk arbiter set up with the tribal Bushfolk, causing some of our own Different Zebras to depart in disagreement. The rest remain, stronger.

XII. And so, here we are, the Different Zebras: a mass of our efforts, a collective of ideals, facing a Different Earth once again.

Storyboards

I. In earlier days there was an old copper mine not far from my home. One summer I snuck off to smoke up in the caverns. All the fog here reminds me of that.

II. Everything else, sans absent sky, is different in a bad way. For every beauty there is a terror, and nothing here feels all together. It's all entropy.

III. By now I half expected the Bushfolk & even the mutants. it seems the tribal Bushies can jump like we have. The lunatics are still result of err'd regen.

IV. What's turned out not our fault is the aberrant creatures & plants here. So, this is what becomes of life when we flood the land with Element...

V. The Different Zebras have constructed Vista, 29/60 at the center of this entropy, where it seems most stable. Safe in steep cliffs, we're reminded of Asylum.

VI. The tribe is happy, Vista is lavish. There's something about this place, even with its horrors, that inspires comfort & excess. Maybe the spores.

VII. This pit is our last landing before home, away from the mess we've created. Vista is our harbor to open sea & the old world.

VIII. Some folks, including some of our own Different Zebras, are nervous about the last hop. The view from surface the instills doubt of what lies ahead.

IX. We've learned to survive the ARK, but the point of survival is being able to come home. Green or gray, at least home is natural & non-simulated, real.

X. What's more, this isn't the place for us. How we all got here, nobody knows. How we got on the ARK, even less so. But we are not simulations.

XI. The ARK is not natural: man is meant to walk his path 'till he falls. Here, he's picked up, a lesser of his whole, left a husk of hunger or interest.

XII. Home is on the horizon, a place we can find rest & peace from our follies, from all the beasts, Element & regeneration.

Storyboards

I. This is it, where what's left of us ended up. It's not quite what anyone was picturing when wanting to go home. In this ditch, at least, it's green.

II. I'm not sure what to think anymore. This is Earth, not a simulation. There is no code but still my tribe is haunted by Area-Y's effects & the regen.

III. There's element here. A simple shitload of it. The land is drenched in it and all suffer. This too, could not have been us. It's an old wound.

IV. Some figure element is to blame for area-y. Maybe it was debris with cosmic & comedic timing. I wonder if we're thinking too small.

V. We've awoken to something unreal and have since accepted this new life. But is it really "life?" I remember home & youth, before here, but like in a dream.

VI. Others with drink will admit the lines blur with the days. Memories & dreams are indistinguishable. Ephemeralness has layers, I don't know to which we live.

VII. Some have turned back, some have simply turned. We can jump the arks at will now, i guess we've earned that. We can pick our own poison.

VIII. Remnant will be our stay to those who chose to be as close to the "true" ground as they can. We haven't much here to thrive, but we live.

IX. There's talk of keeping a steady route going. Jumping between the arks & here to make the most of this madness while we can.

x. the feeling is, if this just some endless nightmare, we can at least spend it where we please. bushfolk & company granted.

XI. there is no healing this place. to stay here is only to ponder, but maybe that's what some need. we wander out to wander within.

XII. Our mistakes woke us & cast us here. Now we must choose time for ourselves. To face our past & our future. I remain to dream.
